Recycling refractory rejects back into a usable raw material is the major service of Maryland Refractories Company. They often receive rejects from the manufacturer and store on site until a sufficient quantity is available for recycling into a usable raw material for the original manufacturer or others.
Their operations include storage, excavating, scalping, beneficiation, screening, drying, crushing, and grinding. Packaging operations accommodate 50 pound bags to 3500 pound Super Sacks. The reputation of this family owned business is built on service, quality, fairness and confidentiality. They work to make products and services which in turn benefit other companies.
They have specialized in producing numerous refractory and ceramic grogs from surplus and rejected refractory and ceramic shapes since 1957. They process mostly virgin and high purity used rejects. Small lots of 50 to 500 tons are easily handled.
Maryland Refractories Company, located in Eastern Ohio near Pittsburgh, PA, is also a supplier of refractory raw materials. These include: High heat duty, 95% calcined silica, cordierite and 90% alumina. They also process and recycle items compatible with their refractory products on a toll basis. These include tile, saggers, kiln furniture, graphite, expanded shale, slide gates and many other refractory and ceramic rejects. These items are often used in whole or in part as an ingredient in the original product. These materials are also used as aggregates in cements, slag conditioners, ceramic welding, gunning mixes, castables or monolithic refractories. They are a major supplier of grog to the ceramic art, hobby and pottery industry.
