LWB Refractories earliest venture began in 1889 to burn lime that was sold to local customers for plaster, whitewash and as a soil conditioner. By the turn of the 20th century, the special advantages of LWB’s dolomitic limestone were better recognized.

The LWB (J. E. Baker Company) was the first American company to produce and offer standard roasted dolomite, as a refractory repair and maintenance material for the bottoms of open hearth steelmaking furnaces. By 1960 LWB was still a single product company selling various grades and sizes of dead-burned dolomite. In 1964, the Dolomite Brick Corporation of America, an LWB subsidiary, acquired technology to produce shaped refractories. These products are now widely used in steel producing electric furnaces, ladle furnaces and ladles, as well as stainless steel producing vessels and cement producing rotary kilns.

LWB provides customers with the most cost effective refractory solutions derived from high quality, innovative products and services. Its production facilities are established in many parts of the world. In response to Asian Market demand LWB is constructing a new plant in China to be operational mid 2007.

To meet the changing requirements of steelmaking, the company developed a line of high-purity accessory products in the form of rams, mortars, plastics, vibratables and shapes for maintaining and repairing furnace linings.

Flow control products are LWB’s newest line offering ladle & tundish nozzles, slide gate plates and inserts providing further assistance for steelmaking.

Today LWB Refractories is committed to the continuing growth of products that have as their major component...dolomite, magnesia or both and is one of the world's largest and fastest growing basic refractory producers. Its export market focus is worldwide.
